The idol of Banke Bihari was discovered by the great saint Swami Haridas in Nidhivan. 'Banke' means bent in three places, and 'Bihari' means supreme enjoyer. The idol perfectly captures Lord Krishna's playful, mischievous, and loving nature.

Why the Curtains Keep Closing

One of the most unique aspects of the temple is that the curtains before the deity are repeatedly opened and closed every few minutes. It is believed that if a devotee looks into the enchanting eyes of Banke Bihari for too long, they will lose worldly consciousness and their soul will be drawn away by His love.
