In Hinduism, the Peepal tree (Ficus religiosa) is considered the most sacred of all trees. Lord Krishna Himself states in the Bhagavad Gita: "Among all trees, I am the Peepal tree."

The Abode of the Trinity

It is believed that the roots of the Peepal tree represent Lord Brahma (the creator), the trunk represents Lord Vishnu (the preserver), and the leaves represent Lord Shiva (the destroyer). Offering water (Jal) to the Peepal tree is considered equivalent to offering prayers to the Supreme Trinity.

Scientific Reasons

The Peepal tree is one of the few trees that releases oxygen 24 hours a day, even at night. In ancient times, spending time near a Peepal tree was a way to breathe pure, oxygen-rich air, which clears the mind and promotes physical health.

How to Offer Jal

Devotees typically offer water from a copper vessel to the roots of the tree early in the morning, often accompanied by circumambulation (Parikrama) and lighting a diya. It is believed to bring peace, remove obstacles, and grant liberation.
